HOT Week...

Well it has been HOOOOOTTTTT in middle Tennessee this week! Most days this week as soon as I walked outside I needed another shower!

Work has been pretty good! We are working on a huge project that will last for about two weeks so that has been keeping me busy.

No headaches this week...WOOOOHOOOO! I'm still going to acupuncture and it is still going great!

I have a long holiday weekend next week! I'll be driving to Arkansas on Thursday night after work since we are off on Friday.

Next Friday I will be meeting up with some ladies that I went to high school with...I'm very excited! We haven't seen each other in years. We have reconnected over Facebook and have made a plan to meet next Friday! I can't wait!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

The Refiner And His Fire...

Below is my favorite part of the book As Silver Refined by Kay Arthur. It is on page 1 of the book. I read it over and over again.

Come, Let me take you back to Judean village in ancient days.

Inside a small, walled courtyard under a blue and blazing sky, there stands a refiner of metals. In his hands, gnarled with age, he is rolling and fingering a lump of ore. He watches the sun lay on the streaks and veins of lead and other minerals running through this bit of rock chiseled from the bowels of the earth.

His experienced eye knows that, intermingled within this ore, there is silver. He lays the ore on his worktable then builds his fire with care and the wisdom of years. Soon the flames are rising in the pit situated against the courtyard's stone wall. At the worktable he picks up his hammer and begins crushing the lump into smaller pieces.

He pauses occasionally to stare at the fire, as if in study. From time to time he places more fuel upon the already-blazing coals and works his bellows until the flames are in a frenzy.

When the fire is right, he gathers the hammered bits of ore from the place of their crushing and lays them in a small, sturdy container of tempered pottery - his crucible.

He places the crucible in the fire and sits down beside it. A long day is before him, and this is where he will stay for as long as the metal is subject to the flames. Silver is too precious to be forsaken in the furnace, too valuable to be ruined through inattention.

Carefully he watches the fire. It must be maintained at exactly the right temperature for the right duration of time to accomplish its purpose. Slowly the ore softens. The silver, with its greater density and lower melting point, liquefies first, hissing and bubbling as oxygen is released. The still-solid impurities rise to the top of the molten metal. This is the dross, and the refiner skims it off.

Now he adds bits of charcoal inside the crucible. He knows this will enhance the sheen of the silver. The carbon of the charcoal will keep the refined metal from reabsorbing oxygen from the air, which would only dull its finish.

He tends the fire, adds more fuel, and applies more air from the bellows. Amid the relentless heat surrounding the crucible, more dull impurities, newly revealed, rise to the surface of the mixture.

Again the refiner carefully skims away the murky, smudgy metal floating at the top of the crucible. Gazing down upon the molten surface, the refiner sees at best but a dim reflection of himself.

The refiner works and watches and waits. The heat and its effect continue. More impurities rise to the surface, and again he skims them off.

He never leaves the crucible unattended, never steps away from the fire he has formed to do its work. The finished product he cherishes demands the process. Only his guided and guarded refinement will yield the promised and precious metal. And he is not yet satisfied.

He lets the fire cool. Eventually he sets the crucible aside.

Then once again he builds up the fire, and the process begins all over. This time the skilled refiner makes the fire hotter. Within the crucible, new impurities are released, brought to the surface, exposed for what they are, then skimmed off.

Finally his leathery face breaks into a smile, for now as he gazes into the liquid silver his reflection is apparent -- not yet sharp, but more distinct than before.

More hours pass as he perseveres in his anxious and delicate work.

And then...once more he bends over the crucible, and this time he catches his breath. There it is! In the silver he sees what he has waited for so patiently: a clear image of himself, distinct and sharp.

Delight banishes his frown. His task is done. The impurities are gone. The silver is refined. He has his treasure.

He has "choice" sliver, the most lustrous of all metals, beautiful and highly valued. It's as pale and shining as the wings of a dove, as brilliant and splendid as the moon, worthy to become coin or trumpet or ornament, worthy to grace the king's table or to reflect sunlight in a crown upon his head.

The refiner has taken what was impure and made it pure.
He has taken what was dull and made it beautiful.
Potential value has become actual value.

And the fire--the guarded, guided, relentless fire--made the difference. The fire allowed ordinary ore from the earth to be transformed into treasure.

All under the refiner's watchful care, for all the while he never left it unattended.

What A Week?!?!?...

I went to Arkansas last weekend for a visit! I had a great time! I hadn't been home since Easter! It was nice, relaxing and I enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

Monday and Tuesday were SUPER tense and stressful. Wednesday and today were migraine days. I went to acupuncture twice this week just to get rid of the headache. I'm feeling better tonight...so I think I'm on the upward swing of the migraine. The migraine was triggered by the first two days of work! So that stinks...I'm hoping the next couple of weeks will be less stressful!

So I'm thinking tomorrow won't be too bad and I don't have any crazy plans for this weekend! So it should be a nice restful weekend!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Corn On The Cob Should Be On This List...

Worst Foods to Eat on a Date

Dating is such a fickle affair. Early on, the most inconspicuous details can turn someone off just like that. If you find yourself wondering why you never heard back, one funny yet possible thought is -- maybe it was something you ate. So, don't make your next date a dine-n-dash by eating one of these...

Spaghetti
Unless you're a dainty pro at wrapping those pasta strands around a fork (and so few truly are), don't order this enticing item. On a date you'll realize how much slurping actually goes on over a plate of spaghetti. If you're craving pasta, order a bite-size version like penne, rigatoni, or tortellini. So much easier to eat.

Raw Onions Their potent aroma permeates the room every time you exhale. Raw onions are in many salads (sometimes they're chopped up so fine you don't even notice them), and often they're an ingredient not even mentioned on the menu. Be wise and ask before ordering, otherwise your date may think twice about going in for that sweet smooch.

Steak Tartar Watching someone eating raw meat can be a real gross-out. Just the sound of it makes some people feel a little queasy. Unless you're trying to get rid of someone, take a pass on this uncooked beef "delicacy."

Chili As we all know, beans can do a wicked number on your belly. Gurgling and gas anyone? Those are the last two things we'd want to experience on a date. And don't forget about the bold blend of garlic, onions, and peppery spices that most chilis serve up. Whew!

Stinky Cheese On the plate or on your breath, pungent fromages like Stilton, Taleggio, Roquefort, Camembert, and even Feta can be overpowering for the senses. Safer picks include Parmesan, Monterey Jack, or Havarti.

Ribs The unsightly "caveman" aura of dining on ribs coupled with the all-out mess factor are reasons enough to save this meal for later dates when you two have moved into the comfort zone.

Truffles At an average of $1000-$2000 per POUND, you better be dating royalty if you order these on a date. Same goes for that three-pound lobster tail or caviar. These delicacies are pricey. If you don't know your date well, anyone with an ounce of class should avoid ordering them. A safe way to test the waters is to ask your date if he or she would like to split one of these dishes.

Tacos Has anyone ever managed to eat a taco neatly? That is, without spilling half the contents onto your plate, dripping sauce down your cheek, and getting shreds of lettuce stuck in your teeth? If you're going Mexican, try a more manageable choice like a quesadilla or go with a fork-and-knife option such as enchiladas.

Spinach Salad Salads seem like a safe date choice -- until you order one. Flimsy greens launch oily dressing on to your clothes. Big leaves can be hard to get in your mouth without leaving a trail of dressing on your cheek. And spinach salad is the worst of all. The gritty texture of the raw spinach leaf acts like an adhesive on your teeth. Unless you want to keep running to the bathroom to check that your smile is clean, avoid!

Heavy Garlic This one's obvious, but you don't always think about where it could be hiding on the menu. A lot of pasta sauces, like pesto, use tons of garlic. Many meat dishes, too. You don't want to blast your date with hard-core garlic-ridden dragon breath, so ask about heavy garlic content when you're ordering. As tasty as it is, garlic quickly becomes Eau de Garlic all over your body as it seeps into your breath and your entire body.

Stuff like this CRACKS me up! I use to work with a girl that before every date she would WORRY over what to order at the restaurant where she was going on the date. She would even look at the menu on line....it would stress her out SOOO much! My only advice ever was...don't order corn on the cob...there's not easy way to eat that and look cute!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Question Of The Day...

So we have these new cups in the office...one of them is pictured below....

It is kind of hard to read the cup BUT it says, "This cup is made from corn, environmentally sustainable, and 100% compostable."

SOOOOO the question.....

CAN YOU EAT THE CUP?!?!

I know you "could" eat the cup but is it a good idea? Thoughts? More later!
**UPDATE: YOU CAN'T EAT THE CUP. IT IS MADE OUT OF A PLANT BASED RESIN. HOW COOL WOULD IT BE IF YOU COULD? KIND OF LIKE AN ICE CREAM CONE FOR DRINKS.**
